Thank you Adam. Question for you and all of Democrats in congress. When will you all protest? Why aren’t we seeing more loud public resistance from our elected officials? Can we get a sit in? A general strike? Surely there are enough resistors to gum up the works if everyone stops doing their job.
Except that Schumer will be all in when Trump decides to attack Iran. And he'll back Trump's plans to build a resort where Gaza once stood, after cheering on the demise of the last Palestinian children and all the adults have been driven into the sea.
Please Senator Schiff, please, please, please, team up with AOC and and Bernie, and Pete B, and Jasmine Crockett, and Jamie Raskin, and EVERYONE, please DO SOMETHING big and visible. Go lay down in front of the White House and don’t get up until you’re arrested. WTF is everyone waiting for??
Agree! Thanks for info but start screaming something as United Dems… how about you all stand for peace after unending decades of warring in the Middle East! How about your outrage and you stand for being a country to supports the 98% over the top 2%! Or how about you’d protect Public Lands and help work on saving our over-heated planet! We need to hear from the Democratic Party and what you stand for and so Stand Up to… so together we can rise!
I have an uneasy feeling that the disruption has hardly started yet. I get no thrill from this. Although Trump and his ludicrous cabinet may seem like a joke, there are in fact others operating in the background who are super sharp and just as evil.
If the voters show intensity, the Dems in Congress will, too.
The No Kings protest was a good start and I understand a new Women’s March is being planned. We have some good people in Congress but, unfortunately, so many of those in senior positions are mealy-mouthed cowards.
I’m a boomer, but I think we’ve been in charge for way too long. We need new blood and I think a good way to attract and keep talent would be to open up leadership positions. Republicans have 6 year limits on charing committees which allows younger representatives to move into those positions. Democrats put too much emphasis on seniority.
Another Republican blaming the Democrats. I assume you do not listen to the many Democrats blistering those before them in hearings. They are informed and competent. Beside them are the Republicans who have not a thought in their heads that Trump has not required for a place in his club.
You're right about the Democrats, but way wrong about Susan Kemp. Just hover over her handle and you'll see "Lifelong Democrat" and "Enthusiastic Harris/Walz supporter".
I so agree. Bernie is an amazing constant vigilant protector of our democracy but we do need young blood. I know a lot of people do not like David Hogg but i think he should be a major voice as we go forward. I really do.
Bernie is amazingly energetic (I won’t say for his age, any age.) and really knows how to work a crowd. I’ve been impressed with what he and AOC have been doing. I really don’t think he’d be a great president, although obviously much, much better than Combover Caligula. He is a great senator.
I don't think we've been in charge for too long so much as the wrong ones have been. I think Bernie would've made a great president for example. Unfortunately, it was a lame response to the "Reagan Revolution" that put the Dems on the wrong path. Hopefully, this will be the wake up call the party "leadership" needs.
Yes, the wrong ones are in charge and have been for a long time. That’s why I think we need new blood. I love Tammy Duckworth, my Senator, but I also love Jasmine Crockett, I could listen to her all day as I could Jamie Raskin or Jared Moskowitz. There are some very, very good democrats but the seniority system is preventing them from positions of authority within Congress.
I find it funny that anyone would think I’m a republican, I have never voted for a republican in my life and I’ve voted in every election since I was first eligible, when George McGovern ran for president.
I think mistaking you for Republican was just a misreading/misunderstanding.
I agree with the ones you mention here, plus Al Green, AOC, Adam Schiff (obviously), Cory Booker, Chris Murphy, etc., etc. We're not totally without good leadership. My senator, Schumer, ought to be making plans for retirement in 2028, because, make no mistake about it, he won't win his next primary - no matter who runs against him.
I think I was misunderstood as well, but it still struck me as funny.
Dick Durban is retiring. He hasn’t been as bad as Schumer, but not nearly as good as Duckworth. I really enjoyed watching her take Hegseth apart. Raj Krishnamoorthi is running for Durban’s spot. I’m supporting his candidacy. He was my representative and thought he had some excellent ideas.
i think you are wrong about Schumer in a primary to run again for Senator. He would do well both in the primary and in the general election. But he should not run again for leadership of the Senate Democrats.
I so agree with you. I say this all the time. The clown show is a distraction from the things that are dangerously changing. That is what Iran is all about too; well, that and wanting to be a good buddy to the Saudis. We need ALL to be loud, demonstrative, constant and in law makers faces all the time. This stuff is bad.
It seemed like that a month ago, but not so much these days. He's been having some back and forth with the Orange Scourge over the National Guard and ICE.
Anything that benefits our planet, the lower and middle class, children, infrastructure, our health, etc., that President Obama and President Biden put into law he wants to destroy because of his jealousy and narcissist evil personality.
Thank you for clear-eyed, factual information. Trying not to despair, but it's becoming difficult. The reality is, this regime is out to kill us all. I truly don't understand why. Seems short-sighted to destroy the people that fill their pockets with gold. Kinds dumb really.
Thank you for upping your social to get attention (good job team!). And for talking about this existential issue in practical terms that everyone can understand.
Thank you, Senator Schiff, for supporting action on climate change. I completely understand that people feel the loss of Medicaid is a more immediate concern, but climate change if not addressed will eventually make Earth uninhabitable. Also in the Republicans' budget is the sale of 40% of our public lands, which could decimate the forests that help cool the planet and absorb carbon. I simply do not understand how anyone with children or nieces/nephews could not care about leaving them a livable planet. We know that Trump loves only himself, but what about the rest of the Republicans?
That’s Great, Senator Schumer but none of this will matter unless you Protect our democracy! Please give your readers an update on the administrative coup -- the seemingly boring stuff in the budget bill that the media's not reporting, including one provision that could undermine what's left of our democracy! Let's not get distracted by what the media's covering and forget that this current Administration/regime is following Viktor Orban's playbook to do an administrative coup. All of the media are chasing high ratings/clicks stories, distracting us from that one paragraph provision in the 1,100 page budget bill limiting Federal court contempt powers --- Section 70302 in H.R. 1 -- that the Senate Judiciary then made worse by adding setting bond at, ostensibly, total court costs -- $$$. (rollcall.com, en.wikipedia.org, wsj.com). Heather Cox Richardson, it was through your daily updates that I learned that Senate Republicans already have voted to not follow the Senate parliamentarian's recommendations w/ other legislation. Clearly, they don't intend to follow the Byrd rule w/ the budget bill either. That provision would retroactively make every Federal court ruling meaningless, leaving us no recourse via the judicial system to fight for our rights. Also, "Congressional Republicans have called for banning or curtailing nationwide injunctions blocking government policies after key parts of Trump's agenda have been stymied by such court rulings. The House in April voted 219-213 along largely party lines in favor of the No Rogue Rulings Act to do so, but the Senate has not yet taken up the measure,"
I agree with everything you said. We need the media to broadcast the issues associated with climate change. We need people in red states to call their representatives & tell them to remove those additions to the bill and then protest outside their offices if they don’t. Yes, it’s up to democrats in congress but it’s also up to us to bring the pressure.
Thank you, Adam for all of your postings. Here’s the thing. Illuminating the problems Trump and his minions present is noble but ultimately ineffective. The question becomes how can we fight back without becoming a mirror of Jan 6? It is my opinion that we need to wage economic protest en masse.
I suspect the combination of extreme weather events and a lack of FEMA support may help at least 2% of that demographic connect the dots. The other 98% are by design too focused on immigrants, transgendered people and things that will never affect them the way this deadly cocktail of denial will.
Yes it does go up I am a widow on a budget my power bill for one person Duke energy 357.54 for one person If you care about your children's future and your parents retirement our veterans we are fighting for them and ourselves Mr. Schiff we want to fight the big beautiful bill WE the people want our watchdogs back get rid of the new administration they are destorying our children's future STOP THIS ATTACK ON ALL AMERICANS WHO ARENT BILLIONARES LETS GET OUR SAFE ENERGY GOING FOR OUR CHILDREN PLEASE THINK IF YOUR DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICANS COME TOGETHER FIGHT FOR OUR CHILDREN OUR SENIORS OUR VETERANS OUR QUALITY OF AIR TO BREATHE THE HEAT IS COMING LOOK AT THE PAST TO TODAY FIGHT FOR. They're too busy trying to decide what kind of cupcakes to bring to the gunfight
That’s what it feels like. Or maybe Schumer can prepare another strongly worded letter .. that’s been super effective so far 🙄
I'm pretty sure he's preparing for his unscheduled and unannounced retirement in 2028. If not, he should be.
I think he is, because there have been rumors saying AOC will run for his seat.
If so, she's got my vote.
While peering sternly over his spectacles 👀🤨
Except that Schumer will be all in when Trump decides to attack Iran. And he'll back Trump's plans to build a resort where Gaza once stood, after cheering on the demise of the last Palestinian children and all the adults have been driven into the sea.

This regime is doing everything it can to make life more difficult for anyone but millionaires and billionaires.
We all have to wake up.
The No Kings protest was a good start and I understand a new Women’s March is being planned. We have some good people in Congress but, unfortunately, so many of those in senior positions are mealy-mouthed cowards.

Yes! It's a great reminder of the imperative that we continue to Rise! Resist! ✊✊✊

So where are the democrats? Talk is cheap. We need real leaders ( like newsone).
How about Beto? He's here on substack now.
I assume you mean the Governor of California who is leaning a bit to the right to make him more electable in his run for the Presidency.
It seemed like that a month ago, but not so much these days. He's been having some back and forth with the Orange Scourge over the National Guard and ICE.

That's what criminals do. They kill the victim and steal the gold.

Most of them are psychopaths too.
We're in a five alarm fire now, from the destruction of Medicaid to climate change and everything in between.
Well said.
And no subsidies for climate deniers….big oil.

When will MAGA understand that the financial costs of repairing climate change disasters is higher than fossil fuel income, let alone the human costs?
Unfortunately never! They’re brain washed from their cult leaders.
Oh because they don't intend to repair it.
Do you really expect MAGAnuts to understand anything beyond popping open their next can of Schlitz?

Yes! We need to wage economic protest en masse!! 🎯
I'm all for a line item in my utility bills which reflects the cost increases specifically by the constructive interference of government.
How to reach the American people, especially the red staters?
I suspect the combination of extreme weather events and a lack of FEMA support may help at least 2% of that demographic connect the dots. The other 98% are by design too focused on immigrants, transgendered people and things that will never affect them the way this deadly cocktail of denial will.
Ah, but the Kool-Aid tastes so good, and the Schlitz chases it down so nicely.
