Donald Trump and other senior administration officials have made a fortune off of crypto schemes. Today, I'm introducing the COIN Act to put a stop to this corruption in plain sight.
Thank you, Senator Schiff. We have been very aware of this horrific, illegal grift . This is complete abuse and disgrace to the presidency of the US. All such illegal gains must be confiscated. Please keep at this as long as it takes.
I have asked him to explain his vote but have not heard anything from him or the other Dems who supported it. They have made no public statement that I know of Very disappointing.
Judy, have you read why he voted for this bill? Check out his statement Before He Voted on the Genius Act…. For a personal note: I have worked the halls of Congress and often there are no guide rails on something important, and legislators have to make a decision to move things along by small, incremental steps, in order to accomplish their final objectives…or they have no guide rails at all… Senator Schiff’s Statement was made ahead of his voting for Genius Act—
Trump seeks to line his pockets any way he can. It does not suit the image of what the POTUS should be pursuing. He should be focused on the welfare of America and her citizens, not enriching himself.
I believe the money trump has made while president should belong to the United States treasury. Every president or elected official should be prohibited from using their public office for making personal money. And, it should be fully enforced by the US Treasury Department.
Exactly! He is paid well ; there should be no sources of profit for the president’s personal gain. During his first term, he owned the hotel very close to the White House.. visitors were encouraged to stay there, groups held meetings there….proceeds went straight into Trump’s pocket.
The Emoluments Clause! How many times did we hear that during fotus 1.0? And, now it’s 2.0 & he’s gonna rob everything blind again because NO ONE HOLDS HIM ACCOUNTABLE.
He made bank during fotus 1.0 also & so did his kids. Nothing happened, of course, so he’s back for more. Only reason he ran was to get more money, stay out of prison & pretend he’s God.
A separate bill is needed to establish a strong code of ethics for the Justices. That this is urgently needed is another condemnation of the lack of integrity of some of those who now sit on the Supreme Court and also of those who voted to confirm them.
Adam just voted with the republicans on the Genius act today which allows Trump to scam all he wants in the crypto market! Adam is covering his tracks so you don’t realize what he has done!
Thank you sir . You have my respect and my vote for whatever office you run for. You don’t back down and your civility remains intact ! A rare commodity!
Sad to see where we are today, he is above the law, nothing will change since SCOTUS are just as corrupt as he is, that is why he's untouchable...all SCOTUS should be stripped from the bench all of them!!
Trump meme coin is a Ponzi scheme. It never goes up for people on the bottom. I don’t think we can reach the cultists, but they can be burned by their false prophet and that will teach them a lesson.
Why did you vote for the U.S. Stablecoins, or GENIUS Act, which would establish industry-approved regulations for stablecoins, a type of digital asset designed to maintain a fixed value. If it becomes law, the bill would begin the process of entrenching digital assets as part of the U.S. financial system.
Dems had several concerns about the bill, but negotiated and revised it to include stronger consumer protections, limits on Big Tech issuing stablecoins , ethics rules prohibiting members of Congress and senior exec branch officials from issuing stablecoins. The market is valued at nearly $250B, too significant to ignore. Without regulatory framework, innovation could shift overseas, undermining our economic competitiveness and the dollar’s global dominance. They view the Act as a way to set standards while keeping innovation domestic. Sen Booker (my Senator), Sen Schiff and others believed that since stablecoins are increasingly used for payments and trading, it's better to have regulations in place than not, even if the legislation isn't everything they want it to be.
First of all, I think the language around crypto makes it confusing. A stable coin really doesn’t fit the popular notion of a currency at all. The stability of a currency is a characteristic that is maintained by adjusting the supply and the official interest-rate. A stable coin is more like a stock certificate in that it represents a share of an underlying asset. Theoretically, market exuberance will be limited, because holders won’t overpay for the privilege of holding a share of the underlying asset but we all know how FOMO works. That said, stable, coins are here, and the notion that they should be regulated like the stock market seems reasonable and I suspect that’s why Adam Schiff may have voted for it.
Deb--I don't really get currency anyway. Whether it's gold or bits of plastic, t's worth what people say it is. The U.S. dollar is already traded on the world market and people make money off the trades all the time. People use checks and credit cards and don't carry hardly any cash nowadays. Ugh...what's the difference? Personally, I'd rather invest in nice, green emeralds! lol
Keep it going because America is in danger and it's imperative to restore our country to save our democracy before it's too late his administration is running and we need to run faster .
You mean that "One Big Ugly Bill"? All Democratic Senators can be counted on to vote "nay". For now at least, it's still being debated amongst the Republicans. Ironically, even the likes of Josh Hawley is opposed to all those Medicaid cuts. Other GOP Senators have other issues with it. And finally, it won't pass muster with the Senate Parliamentarian because it contains non-budget related provisions - really ugly ones at that.
The COIN Act is a lovely idea, but we all know it won't pass the majority-Republican Senate, much less the majority-Republican House, much less be signed by the same "president" the bill is meant to constrain.
We'd have been better off if you'd voted against cloture and passage on the GENIUS Act, a flawed bill that was heavily criticized -- even in its final form -- by crypto watchdogs and by your consumer/corruption-focused colleagues Sens. Warren and Merkley, and which enables the same grift for which the COIN Act is the "solution."
As your constituent, I'm deeply disappointed in your votes on the GENIUS Act. Introduction of the COIN Act, which will not pass, does not make them better.
All of the money obtained for personal gain needs to be confiscated and put into the Social Security fund. Thank you Senator Schiff for being the politician I think elected officials should be.

Adam voted with the republicans on the genius crypto bill just today!! Don’t thank him, hold him accountable!
Maybe 15 Dems voted for it because it will allow some regulation of krypto, which needs to be done, imo.

Thank you for this link. I had not seen it before I made the preceding comment. Very helpful.
With an added benefit of reducing the deficit and saving Medicaid.
Trump seeks to line his pockets any way he can. It does not suit the image of what the POTUS should be pursuing. He should be focused on the welfare of America and her citizens, not enriching himself.
Exactly…but as we all know - he‘s only thinking about his own narcissistic ego and his own money-making scams .. He‘s more than PATHETIC 🤮😡

They can out it toward PUBLIC SCHOOLS, MEDICAID, SS!
He made bank during fotus 1.0 also & so did his kids. Nothing happened, of course, so he’s back for more. Only reason he ran was to get more money, stay out of prison & pretend he’s God.
That’s like asking a mad dog not to bite!
Does this bill include the Supreme Court?
A separate bill is needed to establish a strong code of ethics for the Justices. That this is urgently needed is another condemnation of the lack of integrity of some of those who now sit on the Supreme Court and also of those who voted to confirm them.
That would just be too good to be true.
You wish!!!
Thank you for representing all of us against this fraud.
Adam just voted with the republicans on the Genius act today which allows Trump to scam all he wants in the crypto market! Adam is covering his tracks so you don’t realize what he has done!

Not all of them - only the six reichwingers. I call them the "gang of six".
I have been urging my Trump supporting community to sell their homes and their cars to buy Trump coin. If anything happens, Trump will fix it
So where do they live and what do they drive until the market goes up and their meme coin is (or isn't) worth more?
Trump meme coin is a Ponzi scheme. It never goes up for people on the bottom. I don’t think we can reach the cultists, but they can be burned by their false prophet and that will teach them a lesson.
😂
Hmmm...devilish, deliciously good idea...

Exactly my point! I already called out my senator for voting for it! But just like Adam he took a boatload of money from the crypto lobby!

💙Thank you Senator Schiff from Citrus Heights CA 💙 IMPEACH CONVICT REMOVE JAIL 💙 8647
What would stop him seeing us as a way to cut funding through revocation of necessities like food, medical care, homes ... to line his pockets?

And sure enough, here's the first provision the Parliamentarian struck down:

My thoughts exactly. If he was worried about Trumps crypto scam he would have voted NO on the Genius Act!
This is a great start in addressing the grift!
So maybe explain to us WHY you voted for the GENIUS Act, which produce more crypto corruption????
Exactly!!!
All of the money obtained for personal gain needs to be confiscated and put into the Social Security fund. Thank you Senator Schiff for being the politician I think elected officials should be.
Adam just voted with the republicans on The Genius Act! Adam love’s crypto because they give him lots of money! He isn’t the good guy!
